Emergency Alerts: Riu Republica Hotel Official Statement Issued Amid Recent Challenges

The Riu Republica Hotel in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic, has issued an official statement addressing recent incidents that have raised concerns among guests and the public.

In early March, the hotel experienced a significant power outage lasting approximately 22 hours, affecting various amenities. RIU Hotels & Resorts clarified that the outage was due to internal issues within the hotel and not related to the local energy provider, CEPM. CEPM confirmed that the power supply was uninterrupted during this period .

Additionally, the hotel faced criticism following the disappearance of a University of Pittsburgh student, Sudiksha Konanki, who was last seen on the beach during a red flag warning indicating dangerous sea conditions. RIU Hotels & Resorts stated that the staff acted promptly upon being notified of the disappearance, cooperating fully with authorities and offering support to the family .

The hotel has reiterated its commitment to guest safety and is implementing measures to prevent future incidents.
