FAYETTEVILLE — No. 14 Tennessee stranded six baserunners in the first three innings Saturday afternoon at Baum-Walker Stadium. Regardless, the Volunteers had the lead and were winning the war of attrition, weathering Arkansas starter Gage Wood to 76 pitches already.

That soon wouldn’t matter, as Arkansas catcher Ryder Helfrick lifted a go-ahead grand slam 332 feet in the bottom of the third inning, which barely plopped into the visitors’ bullpen. The lofted homer, hit at a 46.3-degree angle on a high fastball, put the No. 5 University of Arkansas baseball team up by four runs.

The Razorbacks (43-12, 20-10 SEC) won by that same margin, 8-4.

“I knew I got it,” Helfrick said. “I didn’t know if, how high it was going to be or not, if it was going to be able to get out.
