Tottenham Hotspur manager Ange Postecoglou was left ‘furious’ with Dejan Kulusevski just before half-time during their 2-0 win over Fulham last night.

 

Heung-min Son and James Maddison’s goals gave Spurs a comfortable victory. Both goals were the result of cheap turnovers by Fulham when attempting to play out from the back.

But don’t diminish either of the finishes. Son gave Spurs the lead with a curling shot from the edge of the box, and in the second half he switched roles to set up Maddison, who expertly lobbed Leno to seal the victory.

But Kulusevski, who had the chance to double the lead soon before halftime, left Ange angry.

In his commentary for Premier League Productions, Andy Townsend observed Postecoglou’s apparent annoyance.

Through TBR, he stated:

“He needs to fire there. Martin (Tyler), who is Kulusevski there, must put the finishing touches on the situation. Another great ball from Romero. Because that should go into the goal, that is a crucial point in the game.

Ange Postecoglou was incensed that they didn’t make more of that, as I could see by the look on his face.

Spurs returned to the top of the Premier League standings with 23 points after beating Fulham, two points ahead of Manchester City and Arsenal.

And if they defeat Crystal Palace on Friday night, they will have the opportunity to momentarily increase their advantage to 5 points.

Just ten minutes into the second half, Maddison and Son connected to double Tottenham’s lead.

After Maddison’s goal, however, Spurs put on a lackluster performance, and it’s safe to say that Ange Postecoglou wasn’t impressed with his team.

Maddison was questioned by Spurs Play about Postecoglou’s response to their performance in the second half.

The gaffer is not at all pleased.

But he merely thought the second-half performance was a little off, a little careless, and a little complacent. It’s merely a wake-up call. But he thinks that way because that’s who he is, and that’s probably why he has triumphed everywhere he has gone.

“We’ll consider that. However, even when we weren’t performing at our peak, we still experienced some significant moments.

“Scored in the second half, created some chances, and overall I think we’ll all be happy with that.”

Last night’s win saw Tottenham move back above the likes of Arsenal and Manchester City to the top of the

table. But it’s an encouraging sign for Spurs that Postecoglou wasn’t satisfied with the performance.

Spurs were exceptional off the ball last night and both of their goals came from their desire to press high.

But Postecoglou made a great point after the game that his side took their foot off the gas after going 2-0 up.

Tottenham were sloppy on the ball in the second half and presented Fulham with some decent opportunities.

Nevertheless, Spurs still deserved to pick up the three points on the night and it’s exciting for Tottenham fans that there is plenty more to come from this young side.
