‘We can’t wait’ – Clacton Carnival announces new court queen and princesses.

THREE lucky town girls have been selected to be part of this year’s carnival court.

Clacton Carnival announced its new queen and princesses at an event at the Pink Palace hotel.

Each entrant was asked questions about themselves by the panel made up of Charmaine from the Pink Palace hotel, Mark from the Greensward Cafe, Linda who helps the carnival and previous carnival queen Sharon.

Kerry Primmer, chairman of the carnival, said: “Last year’s carnival court did a fantastic job representing Clacton Carnival association and we are very excited to be working with our new court this year.

“We can’t wait to see the queen and her court lead the Clacton Carnival procession on the August 9, this year.”

This year’s carnival queen is Lilly Jeckells, 15, who attends Clacton Coastal Academy.

She will be accompanied by Amira Hamrouni, 14, who attends Clacton Coastal Academy and Phoebe Thurgood, 11, who attends Whitehall Academy.

The crowning ceremony took place directly after the decisions were announced and last year’s princesses Lily Powel and Danielle Fraser crowned the new royals.

This year’s carnival kick off with a procession raising money for local charities on August 9 with the theme of Theatre Land.

A Clacton Carnival spokesman said: “So why not join the fun and enter the procession you don’t need a big float to join in – its so easy to be involved.

“You could pull a decorated trailer, push chair or bicycle, make a bright and colourful costume, there are so many fantastic things you could become as part of the theme – let your imagination run wild.”

Tesco and Asda community champions also supplied the cakes and snacks
