Phil Parkinson can write himself and his Wrexham team into English football history on Saturday, by achieving a third-straight promotion.

No team in the top five leagues of English professional football has ever won back-to-to-back promotions. But Wrexham can soon become the first.

Wrexham can earn promotion from League One on Saturday if they beat Nathan Jones’ Charlton Athletic at the Racecourse, and if Wycombe Wanderers lose away at Leyton Orient.

For the Dragons, it’d be another monumental achievement under owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney, though it certainly won’t be an easy task.

Last time out, Charlton Athletic hammered Wycombe 4-0 away from home. Jones’ side are bang in form right now but so too are Wrexham, who themselves picked up an impressive win in their last outing.

Last time out, Wrexham beat Blackpool 2-1. It was a win that saw the Dragons move from 3rd place of the League One table into 2nd, putting themselves back in the driving seat to secure automatic promotion with two games left to play.

And speaking to the club ahead of Saturday’s game, manager Phil Parkinson has revealed how the Wrexham players really spotted a difference in the fans compared to the last game against Wigan Athletic: Wrexham drew that game 1-1 in what was an overall poor performance that saw them slip into 3rd.

Parkinson said: “I thought that the away support at Blackpool was different class, that wasn’t just in the game, it was before as well. The lads said that you could sense just how much the fans were up for it. I said after the game that the players responded after our draw against Bristol Rovers, but I thought that the supporters did too.”

Inevitably, Saturday’s game is a sell-out for Wrexham fans. They’ll pack out their 12,6000-seater stadium and make for an incredible atmosphere, and those unable to attend can also catch the game on Sky Sports. We might even see an appearance from co-owner Rob McElhenney who was in attendance at Blackpool.

And Charlton are doing their part to make for an intense atmosphere too. The Addicks have sold out their 1,284 allocation for the game as they themselves look to claim 2nd place in the League One table, behind runaway title-winners Birmingham City.

Wrexham fans will surely heed Parkinson’s comments and back the boys once more on Saturday, in a bid to achieve the unthinkable third-straight promotion.
