Celebrate double world champion Springbok Handre Pollard’s birthday with a look back on his illustrious career.

The flyhalf, who turns 31 today, has scored 772 points in 80 Tests.

Pollard was the top point-scorer at the 2019 World Cup in Japan with 69, including 22 in the famous win against England in the final.

While he missed out on selection for the Springboks’ original 2023 World Cup squad, Pollard was called up during the pool stage as an injury replacement. He went on to kick a late match-winning penalty in the semi-final against England and scored all 12 of the Boks’ points in the win against the All Blacks in the final. He finished the tournament in France with a 100% goal-kicking success rate.

Pollard also played a leading role in the Boks’ series win against the British & Irish Lions in 2021 and in a memorable 2024 Test season that saw the Boks beat the All Blacks twice and win the Rugby Championship.

Earlier in his career, Pollard won the U20 World Championship with South Africa in 2012, kicking 15 of his team’s 22 points against New Zealand in the final. He captained the Junior Boks in 2014 and was named the World Rugby Junior Player of the Year.

Pollard earned 59 Super Rugby caps for the Bulls before joining French club giants Montpellier and then the Leicester Tigers in the English Premiership. He is set to return to Pretoria at the end of the season, having signed a two-year deal with the Bulls
