Racing 92 head coach Stuart Lancaster has lashed out at rugby pundit Andy Goode, stating he has “lost all the respect” he had after the former England international linked him with the Munster job.

Speculation has been bubbling regarding Lancaster’s future with the Parisians in recent weeks, with Racing currently sat ninth in the Top 14 table at the time of writing with just five wins from their opening 12 games.

‘I was disappointed by the lies told about me’

Following the departure of Graham Rowntree – Lancaster’s former assistant coach with England – from Munster, rumours began to emerge linking Lancaster with the vacant post at Thomond Park, and former England fly-half Goode said on The Rugby Pod that Lancaster had even “chucked his hat in the ring” for the job.

“The easy thing to do over in Racing is to blame the non-French option and Lanny’s under some heat,” Goode said.

“I’ve heard he’s chucked his hat in the ring for Munster because he wants out of Racing, but we’ll see what happens.”

But, Lancaster has outright rejected these claims, telling French outlet RMC Sport they are “lies told about him”.

“I was disappointed by the lies told about me,” said the former England boss. “One of them started in England about my departure for Munster, which is totally false. I lost all the respect I had for the people on the podcast who said that.”

Lancaster added: “But what disappointed me the most was the fact that other people presented information on their websites as true without checking the facts. We live in a world full of false information; it is a responsibility to check it.”

The former England head coach took the reigns of Racing at the start of last season after a decorated spell as Leinster assistant coach under Leo Cullen. In his first season in charge, Racing finished sixth in the Top 14 table to make the play-offs, but fell to eventual finalists Bordeaux Begles, and also reached the Champions Cup last-16 before being knocked out by eventual champions Toulouse.
