Rapid Release Neil Lennon Statement | Latest Celtic News
Neil Lennon finds himself at the centre of controversy following claims that he and his assistant coaches behaved unprofessionally during a training session.
A report from a Romanian media outlet 1923 suggested that Lennon and his staff visited the Grivita brewery earlier in the week and later appeared to be in a compromised state at a subsequent training session. The site went as far as to accuse Lennon of urinating on the training pitch.
FC Rapid, the club Lennon is currently managing, has issued a strong rebuttal against these allegations. In a statement, the club condemned the ongoing media attacks and defended Lennon’s professionalism.
The statement on Facebook read, “FC Rapid club publicly disapproves all attacks without evidence to which the club members are subjected to every day. It’s a trend to bump into Rapid and I understood this satisfaction from a part of the media, analysts and some persons who have turned their love for Rapid into a tool of denigration
“We want to clarify two subjects that appeared in the press that have no real basis. Neil Lennon is a professional, with a history that should make any speedster fan proud. His mentality brought to the club an enormous desire for evolution. Under no form has there ever been a moment in which he was any other than a professional. Thus, we deny the rumors that describe him and his staff acting inappropriate during training.”
Despite the club’s firm denial of the accusations, the pressure on Lennon continues to mount, not only due to these allegations but also because of recent underwhelming performances and results from the team.
Neil has guided them to two draws and a defeat after three games, leaving them in 12th place in the league.
The Celtic legend took the job this summer after being out of the game for over a year. He’s looking to re-establish his management credentials with Rapid, but there appears to be real resistance and if the Rapid statement is correct, there is some mischief making at play.
Hopefully Neil can get the team firing and silence doubters and detractors.
