The Saints are on the march for star talent to make sure they stay up in the Premier League, and their search has brought them to show interest in one of Celtic’s best players.

Matt O’Riley is highly in demand around European football, as even Serie A side Atalanta, bound again for the Champions League as well as the reigning Europa League winners, have been pushing hard to nab the 23-year-old attacking midfielder.

An even bigger side in name in Serie A, Roma, have also shown a significant degree of interest in the Danish international, who averaged 2.5 key passes per game in the Champions League last season.

Southampton are the latest team to go after the Celtic star, with Italian outletTuttoMercatoWeb reporting that the Scottish Premiership powerhouse rejected a 14 million pound transfer offer for Matt O’Riley.

Although Southampton were also reportedly willing to throw in add-ons, their offer is downright insulting and is at least 10 million pounds below O’Riley’s Celtic evaluation, as well as below the evaluation of any reasonable party.

The Serie A giants are all offering close to what Celtic want, yet here come Southampton, a club bound for the Premier League, believing that they can submit a bid in the hopes Celtic will, what, mistakenly accept it.

Look, the Saints are going to have to do a LOT better than that if they want to land one of the most underrated attacking midfielders in European football – with a strong Champions League record, no less.
