Florida Coach Disputes Damaging Rumor About Ex-Colorado 5-Star Cormani McClain
After graduating from high school, Cormani McClain, a former five-star and top-ranked cornerback in the 2023 class, has been surrounded by high expectations. McClain chose to take a similar path as Travis Hunter, who was the top cornerback in the 2022 class, and join Deion Sanders by committing to the Colorado Buffaloes.
McClain only played in nine games and recorded 13 tackles as he battled to establish himself. He moved to the Florida Gators after one season. On Tuesday, though, there were tweets that surfaced stating that McClain was no longer associated with the Gators football program.
Will Harris, Florida’s secondary coach, quickly refuted those allegations, though.
Harris firmly tweeted “Not true!!!” on Tuesday, perhaps quelling speculation regarding McClain’s position in the program.
This information was released following On3’s Nick de la Torre’s revelation that he was notified that McClain has missed the majority of the team’s scheduled activities, including workouts and meetings.
Torre mentioned that Florida uses a type of strike system. First, you receive a warning; then, you have to do extra running or lifting, which McClain has also been late to. The team then decided to have the defense and the rest of the team do these additional workouts, hoping it would encourage McClain to show up on time, but it didn’t work.
Torre concluded that no player will be liked in the locker room if their tardiness is causing the rest of the team to have to run.
On3’s Zach Abolverdi revealed on the Gators Online message board, “I’m told Cormani McClain was at workouts at 6 AM this (Tuesday) morning. Working to see if anything has changed since then.”
The Florida Gators have not yet issued an official statement regarding McClain’s status.
