Springboks: Rassie Erasmus makes Exciting Statement on Latest Rankings
Rassie Erasmus has commented on the latest World Rugby rankings that saw the Springboks extend their lead at the summit.
Prior to this past weekend’s jampacked weekend of Test fixtures, World Rugby published the ranking permutations, which highlighted a scenario where Ireland could have leapfrogged into top spot if they beat Rassie Erasmus’ Springboks by more than 15 points.
In the end, the Springboks managed to secure a tense 27-20 win, and banked 0.31 points for their victory to extend their overall lead as Ireland lost a similar number of points.
Rassie Erasmus’ side are now 4.49 points ahead of Ireland at the top of the rankings, and they are almost certain to retain their place at the summit regardless of the outcome of this Saturday’s second Test.
Although the rankings have yet to be officially updated just yet by World Rugby, Erasmus took to social media on Sunday to comment on a predicted rankings post which showed how far ahead the Springboks were.
Not sure how accurate this is, but surely not much between the teams, as we saw on Saturday!” he commented to highlight his view that perhaps the current rankings are actually rather flattering to South Africa.
