Tre Mitchell signs NBA Summer League deal

The Kentucky forward went undrafted in the 2024 NBA Draft.

After going undrafted in the 2024 NBA Draft, Kentucky forward Tre Mitchell has signed a summer league deal with the Oklahoma City Thunder.

The Wildcats had three players selected in the 2024 NBA Draft.

Reed Sheppard went to Houston with the No. 3 overall pick; Rob Dillingham was selected by the San Antonio Spurs with the 8th pick and traded to the Minnesota Timberwolves, and Antonio Reeves was taken with the 47th pick by the Orlando Magic and traded to the New Orleans Pelicans. UK forward Justin Edwards, who also went undrafted, has signed a two-way contract with the Philadelphia 76ers.

Mitchell will take part in the 2024 Salt Lake City Summer League scheduled for July 8-10 at the Delta Center, home of the Utah Jazz, a 3-day event will feature the Jazz, Thunder, 76ers, and Memphis Grizzlies.

A 6-foot-9, 230-pound transfer from West Virginia, Mitchell started 24 of the 27 games in which he appeared for Kentucky, averaging 10.7 points, 7.2 rebounds, 2.6 assists and 1.0 blocks while shooting 30.5% from 3-point range.

Mitchell had been playing really well for the Wildcats until his season was derailed by back and shoulder injuries, which caused him to miss six games and was never quite the same after returning to the lineup.

He scored in double figures in 13 of his first 19 games with four double-doubles but reached double digits in just one of his last eight, recording 14 points and 13 rebounds before fouling out of Kentucky’s first round NCAA Tournament loss to Oakland.

Over the course of his 4-year collegiate career prior to Kentucky during stops at UMass, Texas, and West Virginia, Mitchell started 92 of 102 games, averaging 13.7 points 5.9 rebounds, and 1.8 assists, shooting 48.3% overall, 34.7% from 3, and 76.3% from the free throw line.

Mitchell decided to enter the portal as a grad transfer last June following the resignation of WVU head coach Bob Huggins following a DUI arrest.
