Sheffield Wednesday completed the signing of Yan Valery from Angers on Friday.

On Friday, Sheffield Wednesday revealed their third summer addition, permanently acquiring Ligue 1 team Angers’ former Southampton right-back Yan Valery.

Danny Rohl has indicated that a busy summer transfer window is in store for S6, having already welcomed free agents Ben Hamer and Max Lowe to Hillsborough this summer.

Following the revelation of the club’s retained list last month, the German manager of the Owls will try to bolster positions all over the pitch.

Following Will Vaulks’ departure to Oxford United, Sheffield Wednesday appears especially thin in central midfield and attack, with Josh Windass’s future still up in the air.

It’s possible that Rohl is looking for a straight replacement for Di’Shon Bernard, the center back, who will be a free agency this summer and whose future is also up in the air.

But it looks like the striker department will be the next to be bolstered, according to Alan Nixon.

Sheffield Wednesday have been linked with a number of strikers so far in this summer’s transfer window.

The Owls are back in for January targets Duncan McGuire and Mika Biereth; both of whom have interest from elsewhere in Europe, though.

Rohl is also keen on re-signing Ike Ugbo from Troyes, following their relegation to the French third tier last season.

Nixon has now revealed on X that Sheffield Wednesday now look set to target a striker signing, and that the Owls have the ‘choice of a couple’, but that the club won’t spend ‘crazy money’.

Nixon’s update is certainly a very interesting one, and it may point towards the Owls pursuing a move for Ugbo over anyone else.

Both McGuire and Biereth are far more popular than Ugbo and might get far larger prices.

According to numerous sources, Ugbo is also attracting interest from other teams. Given his strong play from the previous campaign, Sheffield Wednesday won’t find him for a low price.

Nixon’s update, however, would suggest that the Owls are putting a lot of effort into a deal for Ugbo, who was left off of the Canada national team for Copa America, which might open him up for a summer transfer.

And it will be another excellent addition if Rohl and Sheffield Wednesday owner Dejphon Chansiri can work out a deal for Ugbo.

In the second half of the previous season, he demonstrated his goal-scoring ability and hard ethic, which greatly contributed to the Owls’ final 20th-place result.
