Urban Meyer Could Find Himself Back On The Florida Gators Sidelines In 2025, Which Could Shake The Entire SEC
Urban Meyer was a legend when he coached the Florida Gators from 2005-2010 and brought home two National Championships before stepping down with health issues, but is there a chance he will come back and become the head coach again in 2025?
Billy Napier Is On The Hot Seat
Billy Napier, the head coach of Florida right now, is entering his third season in the role, and it might be his last. In his first two seasons, he has not finished above.500. This season, the Gators have the toughest schedule of any SEC club, meaning it will be extremely difficult to reach six wins and qualify for a bowl game. If the squad doesn’t show any signs of improvement, he can lose his job even if he manages to make it to the bowl game.
The Gators would need to find a coach with a winning record if Napier were dismissed at the end of the season, so why not appoint the man who won two championships?
Urban Meyer Is Always Itching To Coach
Urban Meyer is always looking for a chance to coach, even if he doesn’t come out and say it. When he left Florida in 2010, he waited a year and got the Ohio State job. When he left there in 2018, he waited a few years and got the Jacksonville Jaguars job. Now, he has been out of coaching for a few seasons and has to want to get back, so there is no better place than returning to Florida.
Meyer will be 60 this year, so he still has many good coaching years left. We just saw Alabama head coach Nick Saban retire at 72, so Meyer could coach five to seven seasons at Florida if he were to go back there.
Football games in Florida also need to be won right now. Since Meyer left the SEC 15 years ago, they haven’t posed a serious challenge.
If Meyer were still coaching at Florida, the college football world and Gators supporters would not put up with their bitter rival Georgia dominating the conference.
The team needs a fresh change in direction, thus Florida has to call Urban Meyer if the position becomes available for the upcoming season and don’t stop talking until he says no. Who knows? Maybe hiring the guy who won a lot of games and titles for you years ago may help you become important again.
