Real Madrid are reportedly looking at Tottenham Hotspur centre-back Cristian Romero, as they deal with uncertainty over their central defensive options. Captain Nacho Fernandez could leave this summer, and Eder Militao and David Alaba are coming off serious injuries.

According to ESPN Argentina, Real Madrid have expressed an interest in Romero, sounded out his camp. The 26-year-old’s camp reportedly believes that it is time to move on from Spurs, feeling that he is one of the best defenders in the world, and while Tottenham are a top club and growing, they are not amongst the best in Europe.

All the same, it would be a major surrpise if Real Madrid spent big on a central defender this summer, and Spurs would no doubt demand a significant fee. Los Blancos are interested in signing Lille’s Leny Yoro, but have set a €40m limit on that deal, and see the Frenchman as a long-term signing. Romero would come in expecting to compete for a starting spot immediately, and would likely mean Real Madrid letting one of David Alaba, Eder Militao or Antonio Rudiger go.

Tanguy Ndombele’s contract with Tottenham Hotspur is scheduled to expire this summer, according to Football London’s report. Since his arrival in 2019, the 27-year-old has been a complete disaster for the Lilywhites.

Everyone initially believed Tanguy was going to become a Premier League superstar. But his lackluster approach to the game prevented him from ever quite rising to the heights that many had predicted.

As of right now, Ndombele earns more than £200,000 a week, or almost £10 million annually. For the Spurs, breaking Ndombele’s contract for about £7.2 million would be a cheap compromise.

The 27-year-old has already been on three failed loan stints. More time away from the Lilywhites will not somehow lead to him becoming a better football player. For better or for worse, this is the limit of Tanguy’s footballing ability and the Lilywhites need to make peace with that.

He has by far been the team’s worst transfer and the time is write to cut ties and start fresh. The money saved by terminating the 27-year-old’s contract can be easily reinvested into the team for getting more depth.

Last season, Ange Postecoglou was struggling to field a strong starting XI while players like Ndombele were with Galatasaray enjoying their £200,000 per week contract. The team would’ve been better off getting some depth with that money back in January.
