Eagles landing a dream Giants DB target would be the worst-case scenario
Giants fans can only hope this doesn’t happen
It’s reasonable to say that the Philadelphia Eagles are still savoring their early-season victory over the New York Giants. Naturally, the topic of discussion is Howie Roseman’s acquisition of Saquon Barkley, a development that will make Nick Sirianni happy for some time to come.
Although it pains us to say it, the Eagles have had a successful offseason. Could things for them get any better? According to Albert Breer of Sports Illustrated, the Eagles are a club to keep an eye on in the Justin Simmons competition. The G-Men would love to have Simmons, but Big Blue will be quite disappointed if Philly moves first.

“The Philadelphia Eagles are one obvious place to look, since Simmons’s old coach, Vic Fangio, is there, as is his old position coach, Christian Parker. I guess you could say the same for Ejiro Evero with the Carolina Panthers, since they have a need there—I just don’t think the Panthers would appeal to Simmons. The Atlanta Falcons and Los Angeles Rams run similar schemes as well, that’d fit Simmons.”

The Eagles may not have a need for Simmons, though, with it recently being revealed that James Bradberry (former Giant) is making the switch from cornerback to safety. Still, Simmons is an All-Pro talent and signing him would only make Roseman and Sirianni’s egos more visible from Mars.
Having said that, we continue to hope—however remote—that Joe Schoen will intervene in this situation. With Darren Waller’s retirement imminent, the Giants will have more than $11 million in cap room to work with. Jason Pinnock and Tyler Nubin, the second-round picks, are the likely starters now that Xavier McKinney is in Green Bay.
While Pinnock has shown glimpses and Nubin has a ton of potential, this young and inexperienced secondary would greatly benefit from adding a playmaker like Simmons. It would also convey a small message to Philadelphia. We’d be all for Schoen making an offer, but who knows whether he’s willing to make one?
