Fans Share Same Thoughts On College Football Hall Of Fame’s Urban Meyer Decision
Former Florida Gators and Ohio State Buckeyes head coach Urban Meyer, a three-time champion, is officially nominated for the 2025 College Football Hall of Fame class. His eligibility joins that of renowned coaches like Jim Carlen, Larry Coker and Tommy Tuberville.
The most noteworthy person to partner with Meyer, though, is Nick Saban, the head coach of the Alabama Crimson Tide and a former adversary who retired at the beginning of 2024.
Most people who follow the sport are not surprised by either of these nominations. However, a lot of people find it amusing that both coaches will probably be inducted into the same class.
“There are several amusing reasons why Nick Saban and Urban Meyer might be inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in the same year. Guys can’t get away from each other, lol,” a social media user commented.
In their illustrious careers, Meyer and Saban have combined for 10 national titles and 16 conference titles.
The two coaches had a four-year overlap in the SEC from 2007-2010, during which Saban was at Alabama, and Meyer was the head coach of the Gators. During that period, they had a multitude of iconic head-to-head battles, including two SEC Championship Games in 2008 (Florida 31, Alabama 20) and 2009 (Alabama 32, Florida 13).
Both men have been coined as rivals for years, so the idea of them getting put into the Hall of Fame at the same time is enticing.
But some fans think Meyer’s nomination is long overdue. Saban had to wait just months for his, while Meyer had to wait years after retiring from Ohio State in 2019 to get his.
“Both of them will easily make it,” one fan said.
“Both pretty easy walk-in candidates, all things considered,” added another.
“Automatic entries,” said one.
Both coaches have legendary resumes, leaving many to view their timeline toward induction as unfair.
“Both first ballot.”
