We didn’t even get a sniff of starting this game. Well before the original start time, Mother Nature won the first battle between the Toronto Blue Jays and Chicago White Sox on a rainy Tuesday at Guaranteed Rate Field.

With the two teams waiting to get the second game of their three-game series underway, all we can do is wait for the weather to clear on the Southside.

Update: According to MLB.com’s Keegan Matheson, the start time has been set for 8:20 p.m. ET.

When it appeared like the 7:40 p.m. ET start time would not happen, the White Sox formally declared the rain delay at 6:47 p.m. ET. The home team did not specify a provisional start time at the time of the announcement.

The rain in the vicinity has caused a delay in the start of tonight’s game. The squad posted on social media, saying, “We will provide more details as we learn them.

Blue Jays-White Sox rain delay: Kevin Gausman looks to build off his last start

It’s no secret that Kevin Gausman (3-3) has had a very un-Kevin Gausman-like start to his season. The right-hander comes into this game with a 4.47 ERA and an obnoxious 1.43 WHIP. However, he’ll be looking to build off his last start against the Detroit Tigers when he faces the offensively inept White Sox.

During six strong innings, Gausman kept the Tigers to one run on three hits. In winning just his third game in ten starts, he struck out ten batters.

Thanks to three home runs, the Jays won the first game of the series on Monday, 5-1. In a much-needed show of strength to support starting pitcher Chris Bassitt, who tossed five innings of scoreless ball with seven strikeouts before departing the game with neck spasms, George Springer, Bo Bichette, and Davis Schneider all reached base.

Prior to the game on Tuesday, the Blue Jays made two roster changes: they optioned struggling pitcher Erik Swanson to Triple-A and activated veteran reliever Chad Green.
