Cobus Wiese has revealed why he opted to stay with the Vodacom Bulls.
The Springbok utility forward recently signed a new three-year deal in Pretoria, despite reported interest from the Stormers, who were keen to lure him back to bolster their pack.
Wiese, who joined the Bulls from the Sale Sharks in 2024 after earlier spells with Western Province and the Stormers, has since established himself as a key figure at Loftus.
He made his Test debut against Italy in 2025 and remains part of Rassie Erasmus’ plans ahead of the 2027 World Cup.
The 28-year-old said his decision ultimately came down to stability off the field.
It would’ve been an easier decision four years ago with just myself and my fiancé to move around, but now I’ve got a family,” Wiese said.
“I now have a wife, a little girl and had a boy just two months ago … it’s just not yourself you’re thinking about.
We just thought that Pretoria is the best fit for us at this stage
My daughter is in a very good school, and we enjoy the people of Pretoria. It’s a good set-up we’ve got going here now.”
Wiese added that a conversation with Bulls coach Johan Ackermann also helped shape his thinking.
“Definitely, coach Johan whispered one or two things in my ear that I took into consideration, but for myself and my family, Pretoria is the best fit for the next three years.”
The Bulls bounced back from a disappointing home loss to the Stormers with a 40-7 win against Cardiff last week to retain eighth place on the Vodacom URC log with five rounds of the regular season remaining.
They now face a sixth-placed Munster side that was hammered 45-0 by the Sharks in Durban but has been boosted by the return of Ireland prop Jeremy Loughman, scrumhalf Craig Casey and flyhalf Jack Crowley.
