Bristol Rovers £188k agent fee spend compared to Wrexham and Bolton Wanderers
Bristol Rovers were beaten 2-1 at home to Exeter City last time out in a damaging result. They have slipped into the League One relegation zone as they stare down the barrel of a potential drop to League Two. Inigo Calderon’s side are inside the bottom four along with Shrewsbury Town, Cambridge United and Crawley Town.
The Gas are level on points with 20th place Burton Albion but their goal difference is worse. The Brewers also have a game in hand. Calderon’s men have four fixtures left to play this season to save themselves.
Bristol Rovers’ summer and winter transfer deals
Bristol Rovers started this campaign with former Exeter City and Rotherham United man Matt Taylor as their manager. They delved into the market last summer to bring in a host of new faces to bolster their ranks. The Gas only forked out fees for two players though in Promise Omochere from Fleetwood Town and Isaac Hutchinson from Walsall.
As per Transfermarkt, they spent £506k on Omochere and £257k on Hutchinson. They then snapped up Jamie Linsday, Ruel Sotiriou, Clinton Mola, Joel Senior, Bryant Bilongo, Micah Anthony, Taylor Moore and Shaq Forde on free transfers. Lino Sousa, Josh Griffiths, Jake Garrett, Gatlin O’Donkor and Michael Forbes arrived on loan.
In terms of January, the Pirates didn’t spend any money on transfer fees. However, they did move to snap up Romaine Sawyers permanently for nothing. They also acquired Matt Butcher, Myles Roberts, Sil Swinkels and Michael Reindorf on temporary deals.
Omochere, 24, has made 24 appearances since his move from Fleetwood and has scored four goals. He is under contract until June 2027. As for Hutchinson, he has been a regular in this campaign and has played 40 matches, finding the net on six occasions to justify his price tag.

Agent fees are money given to representatives of players during transfer deals. Huddersfield Town have spent the most following their relegation from the Championship but to no avail as they look to miss out on promotion. That is a surprise considering Birmingham City, Wrexham and Stockport County’s financial firepower in the transfer window.
Bristol Rovers find themselves nearly smack bang in the middle of the table, whilst relegation rivals Burton have spent just under 100k more on agent fees over the course of the last 12 months. Bottom of the league Shrewsbury Town have spent the least.
