William Byron was to start Sunday’s Goodyear 400 from Darlington Raceway on the pole position. Byron held the top spot with a lap of 170.904 mph.

With his pole on Saturday, Byron became the first driver to get back to back poles this season.

For Byron, this marks his 15th career Cup series pole.

“I feel like we’re always strong here,” Byron told Fox Sports post-qualifying. “It’s really a good track for our team and myself and just trying to find a decent balance.”

Zilisch to Make 2nd Cup Start

For Byron’s Hendrick Motorsports teammates, they did not fare as well as Chase Elliott will start from 15th, Kyle Larson in 19th and Alex Bowman in 33rd.

Ryan Preece will start alongside Byron from the second position. Preece had a lap of 170.407 mph.

Rounding out the top five in qualifying were Denny Hamlin in third (170.354 mph), Chase Briscoe in fourth (170.283 mph) and Bubba Wallace rounded out the top five in fifth (170.189 mph).

Rounding out the top ten were Austin Cindric in sixth (169.877 mph), Tyler Reddick in seventh (169.836 mph), Kyle Busch in eighth (169.824 mph), Ryan Blaney in ninth (169.818 mph) and Michael McDowell rounded out the top ten (169.736 mph).

Sunday’s Goodyear 400 from Darlington Raceway is set to get underway at 3:00 p.m. Eastern on FS1.
