Wrexham fans enjoyed a long trip down to Devon over the weekend as Phil Parkinson’s side produced a 2-0 victory over Exeter City.

The League One promotion is heading towards its conclusion, and Wrexham remain in a brilliant position.

Wrexham beat Exeter City 2-0 on Saturday afternoon as Ollie Rathbone and Jay Rodriguez found the net.

Phil Parkinson praised Rodriguez as the veteran striker stepped up from the spot to seal the 2-0 victory.

Rodriguez scored the winner in Wrexham’s 1-0 home win over Stockport County but saw his first-half penalty saved before scoring on the rebound.

Wrexham just keep winning at the moment, and with a spot in the Championship up for grabs, fans may well have a third promotion in a row to celebrate.

Wrexham fans travel all over to cheer on Parkinson’s side, and that was on show over the weekend.

The trip to Devon and back is around 450 miles, and almost 1000 supporters made that long and arduous journey.

That is truly brilliant support and another sign of Wrexham fans rallying to try and help get the team over the line, both home and away.

Midfielder Ollie Rathbone has praised Wrexham’s mentality but has also offered a message about the outstanding fanbase.

Rathbone told Wrexham’s official YouTube channel that the support from fans is simply ‘incredible’.

Rathbone noted that having such great fans is really exciting as a player, admitting that he always wanted to play for a club with fans like Wrexham’s.

The summer signing from Rotherham United added that he hopes Wrexham and are enjoying this incredible journey as much as the players are, with another promotion the target.

“It’s incredible, you mentioned before about being in the changing room, being excited – that excites you as a player,” said Rathbone.

“I’ve been at clubs in my career where you look at some of the away teams and the following they get, and you think ‘oh I’d love to play for a team that has that’, so I think all the players in the changing room are fully aware that we’re very privileged to have that level of support, and I hope that they’re enjoying the journey as much as we are,” he added.

Four more away trips for Wrexham

Wrexham fans have racked up the miles over the season, but there are four more journeys to go.

First up is the midweek trip to Cambridge United, who are struggling in the League One relegation zone.

Trips to Blackpool and Wigan Athletic are certainly more manageable before Wrexham end the season at Lincoln City.

Fans would no doubt love a promotion party on the final day of the season and will hope that this is the final away game of the campaign.

Wrexham could still end up in the League One play-offs, meaning an away game would be on the cards – and a potential trip to Wembley.

Wrexham’s six wins in the last seven games mean these journeys have become very enjoyable for supporters, but nobody will be wanting the stress of another play-offs campaign.
