Alabama men’s basketball has secured its latest transfer portal addition.

Miami guard Jalil Bethea has decided to transfer to the Crimson Tide for the 2025-26 season, Bethea announced on Instagram on Sunday. Bethea chose Alabama over Kansas State, NC State and a return to Miami.

“1000% committed,” Bethea wrote in his Instagram caption. “Roll Tide.”

Bethea is a former McDonald’s All-American out of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania who spent his freshman season with the Miami Hurricanes. Bethea averaged 7.1 points, 2.1 rebounds and 1.2 assists while shooting 32.6% from beyond the arc. He played in 31 games and started 16 of them for the Hurricanes.

Bethea is listed at 6-5, 190 pounds and will give Alabama much needed length at guard. Of the expected returners at guard, Aden Holloway is listed at 6-1, Latrell Wrightsell Jr. is listed at 6-3 and Houston Mallette is listed at 6-5. Labaron Philon is listed at 6-4, but his plans for next season have not yet been made known. He is a candidate to declare for the NBA Draft.

Bethea becomes the latest transfer portal player to announce plans to join the Crimson Tide. Noah Williamson, a Bucknell center, was the first. Florida State forward Taylor Bol Bowen became the second.

Alabama coach Nate Oats and company are fresh off their second consecutive trip to the Elite Eight. The roster will look much different next season, though, considering four of five starters saw their eligibility expire.

With the departure of guards such as Mark Sears, Chris Youngblood and possibly Philon, the addition of Bethea gives Alabama a talented option to add to the mix.
