I Blocked Him: LeBron’s Former Cavs Teammate Drops Hot Bomb Regarding Their Relationship
Ahead of the start of the 2024 NBA Finals between the Boston Celtics and Dallas Mavericks, Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James called Mavericks star Kyrie Irving “the most gifted player the NBA has ever seen” after saying, “I’m so f—— mad…that I am not his running mate anymore.”
In response, James’ former Cleveland Cavaliers teammate Kendrick Perkins called out the 40-year-old as he felt James was trying to make Irving’s moment about himself.
Afterward, perhaps in response to Perkins’ comments, James unfollowed him on X.
Perkins revealed recently that after James opted to unfollow him on X, he blocked James via phone.

Perkins’ time playing with the Cavaliers wasn’t all that memorable, even though he was teammates with the best player in franchise history. He appeared in just 18 regular-season games across two separate stints with Cleveland in the 2014-15 and 2017-18 seasons and averaged 2.6 points, 2.3 rebounds and 0.6 assists per game.
He also logged eight games played for Cleveland during the team’s Finals run in the 2015 NBA Playoffs. The Cavaliers lost to star Stephen Curry and the Golden State Warriors in the championship series.
Perkins is probably best known for his time playing for the Boston Celtics, and he faced off against James in multiple playoff matchups during the future Hall of Famer’s first stint as a member of the Cavaliers.
The Celtics and Cavaliers met in the second round of the 2008 NBA Playoffs, and Boston came out on top in that series in seven games.
Cleveland and Boston also met in the second round of the 2010 NBA Playoffs, and the Celtics won that series as well, this time in six games.
In 2012, Perkins, as a member of the Oklahoma City Thunder, lost in the NBA Finals to James, who was then with the Miami Heat.
Despite the fact that Perkins and James were on the same team in the past, there doesn’t seem to be any love lost between the two, to put it mildly. Perhaps James will respond to Perkins’ comments with a post on X in the near future and take exception to what the retired big man said.
