West Brom youngster Reyes Cleary has made a positive impression on Hartlepool United boss Anthony Limbrick.

West Brom loaned the prospect to the National League side in the January transfer window. He has since made 11 appearances in all competitions for the Pools and has chipped in with two goals.

Cleary, 20, saw his deal with the non-league outfit extended last month. He will spend the rest of the season at Victoria Park before heading back to The Hawthorns in the summer.

Limbrick has been impressed and has said on BBC Radio Tees Sport (via a report by the Hartlepool Mail): “He looks sharp and he looks fresh, so we’re really pleased with that. It’s interesting, he’s got more goals and assists from that wing-back role than when he plays in a 4-2-3-1 or a 4-3-3.”

He added: “He’s coming along well and we’re enjoying working with him. He’s such a humble lad and he wants to get better and improve, so we’re pleased for him.

West Brom let Cleary join Hartlepool United to help him get some more experience under his belt.

He spent the first-half of the campaign with Walsall in League Two before his time with the Saddlers was cut short.

The attacker, who can play wing-back now if needed, played seven games for Mat Sadler’s side and found the net once.

West Brom handed Cleary a new one-year deal last summer, holding an option for a further 12 months on top of that, before letting him join Walsall.

His time with the fourth tier promotion hopefuls didn’t go to plan though and his recent switch to Hartlepool United has worked out well for him.

Cleary has been on the books at West Brom for his whole career to date and has risen up through their academy.

He was a regular for the Baggies at various different youth levels and has played seven times for their first-team to date.

After signing for Hartlepool United earlier this winter, he told their website: “I’m very pleased to be here. As soon as I heard of Hartlepool’s interest, I wanted to get the deal over the line. It’s a big club with an exciting challenge ahead, and for myself it’s a new opportunity to work hard and hopefully play some games.”

What now for West Brom?

West Brom will have a decision to make on Cleary when he returns from the Pools.

In the meantime, the Baggies face an away trip to Burnley next before a home clash against Hull City as they eye promotion to the Premier League under the guidance of Tony Mowbray.
