It’s been a delightful start to the year for Jurenzo Julius, getting a call-up to the Springboks’ first alignment camp of the year, suggesting him to be in Rassie Erasmus’ plans for the future.
Likened to Sharks teammate Lukhanyo Am, the 20-year-old centre, nicknamed ‘The Boogie Man’, has all the skills to become a future centurion – 2025 could ignite another illustrious career in the green and gold.
The latest Paul Roos sensation, Julius, has captivated the rugby world since his school days, getting snapped him up by the Sharks fresh out of high school.
Able to play on the wing, the versatile back row has been making a name for himself on the United Rugby Championship (URC) circuit and looks destined for a stellar career; and who better to take him to the next level than Erasmus?
The Namibian-born star will be twenty-three when the next World Cup kicks off, and if he continues on his trajectory, you can bet your bottom dollar he will be on that plane to Australia.
Erasmus on alignment camp
The Springboks play their first game of the year in early July, but Erasmus has wasted no time in putting the squad together, which he believes is pivotal to their success.
“The focus at this camp will be to get everyone on the same page for the 2025 season, which will be vital in laying a good foundation for us to build on with a challenging campaign coming up,” Erasmus confirmed.
“Most of these players have formed part of our structures at some stage in the last seven years, and their experience and familiarity with the way we do things at the Springboks will be invaluable in guiding the younger players, while others have been exposed to our structures before, so they have a good understanding of the way we operate,
“I’m also excited for the new players in the mix, who have made their mark at franchise level, and we are excited to see them receive this opportunity to get a taste of what is expected of them at the highest level.”
