The Green Bay Packers could be in the market for a dynamic linebacker during the upcoming 2025 NFL Draft after expressing strong interest.

Danny Stutsman, a former four-year standout with the Oklahoma Sooners at linebacker, has been invited to interview with the Packers ahead of draft night. Stutsman had been one of the most productive defenders in college football the past three years before entering the draft on the heels of one of his most productive seasons.

The linebacker has recorded 338 total tackles, seven sacks, two forced fumbles, and three interceptions over the course of the past three seasons with the Sooners. In his freshman campaign, Stutsman recorded 38 total tackles, a sack, and two forced fumbles as he began to solidify himself as a starter for the future. The best season in college for Stutsman was by far his 2022 campaign where the linebacker recorded 124 total tackles, three sacks, and two interceptions in his first season as a full time starter for the Sooners. 

What Would Danny Stutsman Add to the Green Bay Packers Defense If Selected?

For the Green Bay Packers, adding to the defense via the draft has become somewhat of a sure bet as the team has scheduled meetings with both Stutsman and Ole Miss defensive end Princely Umanmielen ahead of the draft.

While the two athletes play different positions on the field, there is one clear correlation between the two and that is the speed at which they play the game. Stutsman takes being a student of the game to an extreme and consistently studies both film and offensive sets he could potentially face.

The linebacker not only has become a smarter player due to this but also one that can process the game at a much faster speed, and the faster Stutsman can process the play the faster he can react. The coverage linebacker has been an excellent tool for the Sooners defense due to the fact that he always appears to be a step ahead of both the defense and even his own teammates.

The Green Bay Packers need smart playmakers, and the steps have been taken in the right direction as Stutsman is someone who would fit perfectly into that title for the Packers. Stutsman is also someone who the Green Bay Packers would be able to develop into a potential all-around linebacker as the Sooners veteran still has some issues he is working out in his game.

The linebacker is an excellent tackler but struggles at times in coverage against shiftier or smaller athletes and also needs to improve his speed to the ball on outside run plays.

Stutsman is considered to be the sixth overall linebacker in the draft as well as the 131st overall draft prospect this year, which would put the linebacker somewhere in the middle of the fourth round of selections talent wise, however the linebacker could go as early as 23rd overall if the Packers are impressed.

Currently, Stutsman has been projected to land at 26th overall with the Dallas Cowboys, who have been scouting out Stutsman for quite some time.
