There’s still a chance the best women’s basketball player from the 2025 recruiting class could play for the Oklahoma Sooners.
On Texas reported Wednesday that No. 1 overall recruit Aaliyah Chavez is down to five school choices, including OU, Texas, South Carolina, Texas Tech and UCLA, and Chavez will announce her decision on March 25.
A point guard, Chavez is a consensus five-star recruit and every major recruiting service ranks her as the No.1 prospect in the entire 2025 class. Her 247Sports Composite score is a perfect 1.0000.
Chavez had an extensive list of offers, including LSU, Alabama, Florida State, Kansas State, Ohio State, Oklahoma State, TCU, Louisville, Tennessee, Texas A&M, USC and more. Her top 10 included USC, Arizona, Ohio State, LSU and Tennessee, as well as her final five.
From Monterey High School in Lubbock, Texas, Chavez included two in-state programs in her final five, including hometown Texas Tech. OU is competing with the two in-state schools, plus powerhouses South Carolina and UCLA, down the stretch.
Chavez has not posted about a visit to Norman since way back in 2021, but has mentioned several trips to Texas.

On Tuesday, Chavez got Monterey High School to the Texas Class 5A Division II state championship game after scoring 20 points in a semifinal win. The title game will be at 11 a.m. CT Saturday.
According to MaxPreps, Chavez is averaging 35.3 points, 9.3 rebounds, 4.3 assists and 3.8 steals a game this season. As a junior last year, she averaged 37.8 points a game and 30 points as a sophomore.
