WATCH: Springbok Legend Schalk Brits Was Cut Doing that Could Not Wipe the Smiles From the World Cup Winner

It takes a lot to upset Springboks legend Schalk Brits and even being sent into a water hazard on a golf course could not wipe the smile from the World Cup winner.

The 43-year-old was playing in the NTT DATA Pro Am 2025 in South Africa this week and appeared to be enjoying the golf as he eyed up a putt on Day Three of the event.

Brits came up short with his long-distance attempt but then things took a turn for the worst when Selwyn Nathan, the executive director of Sunshinetour, played the joker.

Race was on

With the former Springboks hooker approaching the ball, Nathan decided to pick it up and throw it way over the former Stormers, Saracens and Bulls front-rower’s head.

The race was then on for Brits as he attempted to retrieve the fast-rolling golf ball before it made its way into the water.

Lost a yard of pace since retirement…

Unfortunately, he did not quite have the speed to stop the ball from going into the water and Brits followed it in afterwards, and was drenched all the way up to his chest.

“How is the cellphone,” one commentator on Supersport said on the broadcast as Brits threw it from his drenched pocket onto the green, all with a wide smile on his face.

Brits, who is renowned for being a larger than life character, always sees the funny side in life and hauled himself out from the water grinning before he was handed a towel.

Character

“What a character, what a player. He retired from rugby, he’s playing golf and now trying his hand at swimming too,” the lead commentator said to sum up the moment.
