The Springbok and Stormers hooker Joseph Dweba has been linked with a move to the English Premiership.

According to Rugbypass, Exeter Chiefs are one of two Premiership clubs competing for the 29-year-old’s signature.

This is not the first time Dweba has been the centre of the rumour mill.

Last season, the star was heavily linked to a lucrative move to Sale Sharks.

However, he declined the offer and opted to stay in Cape Town when renewed interest from French clubs was sparked.

The hooker is nearing the end of his deal with the Stormers and appears to be catching the attention of Exter Chiefs Director of Rugby Rob Baxter.

Exeter has lost Dan Frost to Bath next season, while Jack Innard and Jack Yeandle are in the final six months of their deals, and their futures remain up in the air.

The Premiership club also look set to bring in Brumbies star Billy Pollard, 23, who is out of contract at the end of the year and who has won six Wallabies caps.

England star Luke Cowan-Dickie has also been linked with a return to Sandy Park, but Baxter revealed that there have been no talks with the England forward.

Truro-born Cowan-Dickie, 31, is out of contract at Sale Sharks at the end of the season.

“I can categorically say we are not in transfer negotiations with him if he wants to give me a call and ask about the scenario at Exeter. I’m more than happy,” Baxter said.

“But I have not been contacted by him or his agent.

“If he is doing to knock on the door and the contract is right, we’ll discuss things, but that honestly has not happened.”

Cowan-Dickie is likely to now stay with the Sharks for at least the next 12 months but could have an escape clause inserted, which will allow him to leave in 2026 if a French club comes in for him.
