Springbok Top Stars Granted Leave to Take Time off Rugby Till Further Notice

These top Springboks stars have been granted leave – effective immediately. Meaning, they will be taking a break from rugby until further notice.

The Springboks have endured a tumultuous ongoing season of rugby at the highest level.

The Springboks players are playing more rugby than ever before. Gone are the days where players would go months without playing rugby at the highest level.

Now, we live in the era of fast-paced rugby and continuous live action. Meaning, players are playing more and resting less. Ultimately, resulting in more injuries and less time with family. So, SA Rugby has taken the decision to grant these players leave.

SPRINGBOKS GRANTED PERMISSION TO TAKE LEAVE

Springboks captain Siya Kolisi and scrumhalf Jaden Hendrikse have both been granted leave.

Moments ago, the Sharks announced their Match day 23 to take on the Bulls in the United Rugby Championship. Interestingly, both players will not be taking part this Saturday.

Both stars have featured prominently for the national side as well as the Sharks – in the URC and en route to becoming the Challenge Cup champions. Whilst, Kolisi lead the Springboks to the 2023 Rugby World Cup trophy before leading the Springboks to the Rugby Championship.

So, both players have played a substantial amount of rugby in the last few years. Now, they have a chance to have a rare and much-needed breather – away from the sport. This is rare uncharted territory that will likely become more common due to the higher frequency and demands on the modern game.

MORE HEAVY SCHEDULE FOR SA RUGBY STARS

The Springboks stars used to play no rugby during December and January.

Following the end of the test season (in November), the Bok stars would have the festive season off before returning for the pre-season in January.

Thereafter, they would return to competitive rugby in February for Super Rugby. Now, due to the URC and SA sides competing in Europe, SA rugby stars are in action all-year round. Instrumental Bok players such as Kolisi, Eben Etzebeth, Ox Nche and co-feature prominently for club and country. So, rest is essential for the longevity of their careers.

DO YOU THINK SPRINGBOK RUGBY PLAYERS SHOULD BE GIVEN LEAVE DURING THE SEASON OR NOT?
