Celtic right-back Alistair Johnston thinks the Hoops’ tally of nine points from their opening six Champions League games is respectable.

The Bhoys were lacklustre in the Croatian capital, failing to muster any opportunities of note.

Brendan Rodgers’ side, however, remain in a positive European position with two league phase games to go.

Johnston reflected on this post-match, stating that, although he and his teammates played poorly tonight, they remained sound defensively: “It wasn’t our best performance by any stretch of the imagination,” he said (BBC).

“But we went out there, kept a clean sheet, and limited them to just a few chances.”

In addition to constructively assessing Celtic’s performance in Zagreb, the 26-year-old discussed his side’s points tally, having played six league phase games so far.

Indeed, Johnston thinks, if you had offered the Hoops players and fans nine points at this stage before a ball was kicked, they would have bitten your hand off.

He said: “Nine points after six games, I don’t think anyone would be looking back on that with too much regret.

“If you told the guys at the beginning of the season, we’d be on that number here, a lot of our fans, and ourselves would be pretty happy with that.”

After tonight’s draw, Celtic’s focus now turns to Rangers and Sunday’s colossal Premier Sports Cup final.

Rodgers’ men will need to improve on tonight’s display to secure their first piece of silverware this season.

Rodgers usually copes well with Glasgow derbies (he’s lost just one across his two spells at Parkhead) and he will undoubtedly have his players well up for it this weekend.
