‘He’s still not ready yet’: David Moyes makes honest Jarrod Bowen admission

West Ham United manager David Moyes will be absolutely delighted with the form of Jarrod Bowen so far this season.
Jarrod Bowen is undoubtedly one of the top two players David Moyes has at his disposal, along with Lucas Paqueta of course, with five goals and two assists in just nine appearances for West Ham so far this season (Transfermarkt).
Only a few days prior, Moyes was gushing about the former Hull City forward and referred to him as a “outstanding” player.
Both locally and abroad, the Hammers have had a fantastic start to the 2023–24 season.
Our success has been largely attributed to Bowen’s form. Moyes has even used him as a backup center forward. But is he prepared to play that position on a regular basis?

The Hammers boss spoke to reporters about his pride at seeing the 26-year-old getting a call-up to the England squad for their upcoming clashes with Australia and Italy.
“He is still not ready [to be a No9], and perhaps there is a history here of Marko Arnautovic from a winger to a center forward, and Michail Antonio, but finding a center forward hasn’t been an easy market to locate. He is capable of scoring. Is Jarrod a No. 9 candidate? To see if we believe that can happen, we are still sort of in the manufacturing stage.
Bowen, in my opinion, will eventually play center forward for West Ham. I believe he can play there, and Moyes would rather turn a winger into a striker than bring in a player who may or may not be successful at the London Stadium.
David Moyes is well aware of how far Jarrod Bowen can advance in the game since he is a great talent.
The 26-year-old’s recent signing of a new seven-year contract with West Ham is absolutely enormous news for our club.
It appears that we are now at a point where we can keep our finest players rather than trade them away to the highest bidder.
For the Hammers and Bowen, the future is incredibly promising. It remains to be seen if he will continue to play as a right winger or through the middle in a few years.
