Given Msimango has only made one start this season with Nabi opting to play Kaizer Chiefs captain Inacio Miguel ahead of him.

Former Kaizer Chiefs captain Given Msimango has struggled for game time under the new coach Nasreddine Nabi this season.

The 27-year-old defender has only played two league matches for Amakhosi so far. Against Magesi FC, Msimango made his first start of the season as Chiefs were held to a 2-2 draw by the newcomers. Ironically he was in for current club captain Inacio Miguel, who was suspended for the clash.

FORMER KAIZER CHIEFS CAPTAIN A BENCHWARMER

During Kaizer Chiefs’ 4-0 defeat to Mamelodi Sundowns in the Carling Knockout Cup, the captain was sent off in the second half, forcing Nabi to make a tactical change at the back. The Tunisian coach brought in Thatayaone Ditlhokwe to slot in defence alongside Rushwin Dortley. The Motswana defender got his first run of the season and perhaps he might be the team’s backup defender.

Last season, Msimango was made Kaizer Chiefs captain by Cavin Johnson as the team plummeted to 10th on the log. At the time, the former TS Galaxy man was called a few times to the national team.

In his first season at Chiefs, Msimango played 26 times in the league and was one of the few players who had a decent 2023/24 campaign. Nabi has chosen Dortley and Miguel as his preferred centre-back pairing with Ditlhokwe in the mix, it looks unlikely that the ex-Kaizer Chiefs captain will feature regularly. Earlier this season, it was reported that Russian club Spartak Moscow was interested in signing Given Msimango. It appears that no formal offer was made to Amakhosi.

CHIEFS TO SNAP UP PIRATES ATTACKER

Orlando Pirates striker, Zakhele Lepasa is likely leaving the Bucs in January.

“It’s true these clubs that were interested in him haven’t really stopped inquiring about him,” an Orlando Pirates told SoccerLaduma.

So, if earlier reports are true, the Chiefs may be one of the clubs inquiring about Lepasa. This is purely speculation though as neither club has confirmed interest.

BUCS EXIT LIKELY FOR LEPASA

Interestingly, it was injury that prevented any movement in the recent transfer window.

“I think what was holding the whole thing back was his injury and now that he is fully recovered and Pirates want to give him a chance to play, as well the team’s interest in him, then he will also be looking at the next transfer window period which is in January,”

“So, there is a possibility that the loan deal could happen in January – that I can tell you. Then at the end of the season they would look at a permanent move if all the parties are happy with the arrangements involving a permanent deal,” he continued.

So, Lepasa is likely to leave. Furthermore, we know that Chiefs are in the market for a new striker – this is their priority focus area.

Therefore, this move is very possible. However, it remains to be seen whether the source of Chiefs’ reported interest is from the rumor mill (speculative) or if it is genuine interest.
