He may have let the cat out of the bag a little, but for those of you who weren’t at Friday night’s presentation night we can confirm that the second Bandit signed, sealed and delivered for 2025 is Danyon Hume.
Like fellow returnee Drew Kemp, the 28-year-old from Buckinghamshire made an immediate impact after joining us from Redcar last winter.
Beating Craig Cook in your opening ride is always likely to endear yourself to the Shielfield faithful and as the season progressed Richard Lawson, Kyle Howarth and Josh Pickering also discovered that he was tricky to beat around his adopted home track, especially in heat one.
And again like his 2025 team-mate, much-travelled Danyon is looking forward to his first full “season two” with a Championship club in addition to eyeing a return to the Premiership where he reached the 2023 play-offs with Ipswich.
“I love the club and love riding at Shielfield,” Danyon said, “although I could probably do with adding a few more points on the road.
“It’s a fair trek up from Buckinghamshire but we proved last year that we are a real family club and one that sticks together even when things are not going so well.
“The fans and promotion were awesome in 2024 and it didn’t take long for me to say yes when Stewart and Jamie approached me with an offer for next season.
“I suppose the league table doesn’t lie but Poole were lucky that they avoided injuries, especially to their key riders.
“We were top of the table at one point until Lewi, Rory and Bastian were injured so I believe we were better than our final position and that the management have their sights set on a much better season in 2025.
