Brendan Rodgers has shared what he’s been telling Celtic striker, Kyogo Furuhashi after the Japan international failed to score against Kilmarnock in the 4-0 win at Parkhead.

The Celtic talisman came close on a couple of occasions after he saw a first-half effort cleared off the line and was denied a penalty after Kilmarnock’s Ross McCrorie wiped him out late into the game.

Kyogo did, however, provide an assist for Nicolas Kuhn for Celtic’s third but despite failing to find the back of the net himself, Brendan Rodgers has shared what he has been telling the Japanese striker about where he wants him to play that will benefit the team as a whole.

Rodgers’ ‘important’ Celtic message to Kyogo lmao

Rodgers was seriously impressed with the collective team effort against Kilmarnock but with Celtic netting four times, the Hoops boss shares the role he has asked Kyogo to fulfil that will be important for the team as a whole this season.

Rodgers said [Celtic TV], “For me, it’s never about just the striker. I think that what he did so, so well today, Kyogo, is he played the space rather than the position.

“That’s something that I’ve been talking to him about. I want him on the last line. And if the space is there to go in behind, great, but the space was today in front at times, and that drew out the opponent.

“And you see for Nic’s goal where he came short, the space was there and he spun around the corner, and that creates the space then for Nic eventually to come inside.

“So yeah, the goals throughout the team has always been a mantra for me. There is no point in a striker getting 40-odd goals and everyone else not.

“So across the team, it’s important to have goalscorers.”

Kyogo’s quality will shine through

There is absolutely no need to worry about Kyogo failing to score in the Flag Day win over Kilmarnock. The Celtic fans saw during the pre-season wins in the US just how clinical he is in front of goal.

At 29, the Celtic striker is experienced enough to know that the goals will come and looking at his performance yesterday, it won’t be long until he finds the back of the net again in Scotland.

Kyogo had eight shots on goal with three of those finding the target. Three of those eight chances were also blocked and he had 10 touches in Kilmarnock’s penalty box as he proved to be a constant threat to Derek McInnes’ side. [Fotmob]

With Hibs up next Kyogo will be confident of opening up his account because, in the last nine occasions he has faced them, the Japanese striker has netted four times against the Edinburgh club.
