Loftus-Cheek Reflect on Piolis Final Season With Milan: “We Didn’t Take Advantage

During his long interview with Gazzetta dello Sport, Ruben Loftus-Cheek was asked about the first few weeks with Paulo Fonseca and what went wrong for Milan under Stefano Pioli. Asked to name one thing, he brought up the Europa League exit.

Many believed that the Rossoneri could make it all the way to the final of the Europa League last season, taking on Roma in the quarters. Instead, we got to see two terrible games and the team clearly lacked belief at that point.

Interviewed by Gazzetta dello Sport this morning, Loftus-Cheek shared his thoughts on various topics, including the first months with Fonseca. He was, however, also asked to name one positive and one negative thing about Stefano Pioli’s final season in charge of the team.

“The good: second place, which is not first but should be taken positively. The bad: the Europa League quarter-finals. We had a good chance and we didn’t take advantage of it,” he stated.

An expected answer, to be honest, as Milan truly ‘bottled it’ against the Giallorossi and thus failed to clinch a trophy yet again. The Rossoneri are yet to clinch one since the Scudetto in 2021-22 and the feeling is that this must change in the upcoming 2024-25 season.
