Contrary to claims, the Reds made a set offer of 12.3 million euros (£10.4 million) for Sosa. In addition, there would be 2.3 million euros (£1.9 million) in add-ons contingent on the achievement of specific goals.

According to Argentine media site Via Pais, LA Galaxy, an MLS team, may reenter the competition for the winger. Earlier this year, they allegedly had a $15 million (£11.6 million) offer turned down.

Argentine teams Boca Juniors and River Plate reportedly considered signing Sosa, but decided against it due to the player’s release clause. In addition to Chelsea, Wolverhampton Wanderers, and Leicester City, other Premier League teams were also rumored to have shown interest in the player. Everton and Newcastle United were reported to have scouted him.

Talleres CEO Andres Fassi said in May that Sosa will probably go this summer. “We have committed to releasing Ramon in this market,” he stated.
