The young playmaker made his debut for the Lions in 2021 but is set to join his brother – Springboks scrum-half and 2023 Rugby World Cup winner Jaden  – at the Sharks in a move he is excited about as the siblings grew up and attended school in Durban.

Jordan is relishing his return to Durban and turning out for his new team with his older brother.

“I’m very excited about the new season at the Sharks,” said the 23-year-old via Roc Nation on X.

“Going back to Durbs, you know, it’s where me and my brother’s journey all started. His kicked on immediately, mine took a bit of time. I’m just blessed to go back and join him and hopefully play a couple of games with him and just make history.

“We always had this rivalry of playing against each other. Now, as a family, we can support one team. I know our dad is looking down on us with a smile, being so proud of us.

“We just want to put some action on and for people to put on their 3D glasses: you’re just going to see a movie. That’s what’s going to happen.”

Hendrikse’s move to the Sharks was announced earlier this year but he was initially expected to stay with the Lions until the end of the year due to contractual issues.

However, the Sharks and Lions reached a mutual agreement earlier this month which allowed for Hendrikse’s immediate release and he is expected to turn out for the men from Durban in the Currie Cup competition before their United Rugby Championship campaign kicks off with a home game against the Lions on Saturday, September 21.
