Bad News: Bok No 8 Jasper Wiese Received Hefty Ban

Springbok No 8 Jasper Wiese has been banned for four Tests after being found guilty of foul play.

Wiese received a red card in last weekend’s 45-0 win over Italy in Gqeberha after headbutting an opposing player.

The 29-year-old appeared before a World Rugby disciplinary hearing on Tuesday where the guilty verdict was dished out.

This means Wiese will miss Saturday’s Test against Georgia in Nelspruit, as well as South Africa’s first three Rugby Championship matches – against Australia in Johannesburg (16 August) and Cape Town (23 August) and the first game against New Zealand in Auckland (6 September).

The burly loose forward will be eligible for selection again for the Boks’ last three games of the competition – against New Zealand in Wellington (13 September) and the two matches against Argentina in Durban (27 September) and London (4 October).

The Springbok team for Saturday’s clash at Mbombela Stadium will be announced just after 14:00 on Tuesday.
