Leinster boss Leo Cullen has provided a positive update on Springboks lock RG Snyman after his brief cameo against Ulster in the United Rugby Championship.

Snyman had come off the bench early in the second half, replacing starting lock Joe McCarthy in the 52nd minute, but lasted just 18 minutes before he returned to the sidelines.

The World Cup winner was seen icing his leg during the match as Leinster surged to a 41-17 victory over their Irish rivals, raising concerns about his availability going forward.

However, Cullen has eased those fears, stating that the Springboks star had simply suffered a dead leg and with Leinster up 24-10 at the time, they did not want to risk a serious injury.

“We [the coaches] were like, who are we going to bring on for him but he just got a bit of a dead leg,” the Leinster boss explained after the match.

“So we said we’d take him off and the lads are getting into him inside the changerooms so no he’s fine.

“Max Deegan was there as the last one on the bench, we’re like who to get him on for?

“We thought the lads were going well, Alex [Soroka], Scott [Penny] and James [Culhane] so we left them out there and made the call, not a big deal.”
