Betworthy: Tottenham Urged to Make Their Move for 21-year-old Midfielder
Carlos Alcaraz, a midfielder for Southampton, is someone John Wenham wants Tottenham to sign this summer.
The Argentine midfielder has long been connected to the North London team. According to reports, Spurs and Southampton have been in negotiations to reach an agreement on a trade that would involve Joe Rodon and Carlos Alcaraz.
Spurs have now been urged by John Wenham to finalize the signing. The 21-year-old midfielder, in the opinion of Lilywhite Rose, the host of the Spurs podcast, would be a great addition to the North London team, and his versatility will be a bonus.
“I remember thinking what an exciting player Alcaraz was when Southampton were last in the Premier League,” Wenham said in an interview with Tottenham News.
At the age of 21, I therefore think he is worth taking a gamble on.” “I don’t think Southampton are actively trying to get rid of him, I think he’s made it clear he wants to move to a bigger club.
As a result, he would surely welcome a move to Tottenham, and I would be very much up for Tottenham signing him.”
After coming up the ranks at Racing Club, Alcaraz made the move to Southampton in the winter of 2023. He had an impressive start to life in England but the short loan spell at Juventus towards the end of last season didn’t really go according to plan.
Although the Saints are back in the Premier League, the player wants to join a larger club ahead of next season and Tottenham might be the best destination for him. The 21-year-old might not have lit up the world with his performances in the recent past but he has the potential.
With guidance and experience, he will only get better. Alcaraz would be a long-term investment for Tottenham and it remains to be seen whether they can get the deal done.
