The more I consider the recent transfer rumour linking Jarrod Bowen with a move to Tottenham Hotspur, the less it makes sense.

Even though some well-known sources seemed to support the tale, it may easily be merely one of those completely made-up transfer rumors. Although I am well aware that discussing £150 million is only a deterrent, putting a price on it did appear to hold some appeal.

Not only is the animosity between West Ham United and Tottenham very tough to deal with, but it also makes no financial sense. Tottenham is subject to the same financial constraints and rules that the Premier League’s other teams are being required to follow. It is therefore extremely hard for me to think that they could even start to afford Bowen.

The North Londoners have a Harry Kane-shaped void at the heart of their attack and are supposedly ready with a £50 million bid for West Ham target Ivan Toney. Riccardo Calafiori is believed to be on their radar as well as ours, and there is also talk of a move for Crystal Palace’s Ebere Eze.

Factor in Tottenham’s requirements for a midfielder, as well as the numerous attacking options they already possess in wide areas, and the Bowen links just seem to melt away.

I must confess to a moment of panic when I first heard the news that Spurs were in high-level negotiations with the Hammers for our Player of the Year. It’s also worth noting that anyone who sanctions the sale of Bowen to our London rivals would make themselves incredibly unpopular.

For me, whilst I was initially concerned, this has now become a bit of transfer twaddle.

Wan-Bissaka has been regarded as “defensively one of the best in the world” for a while now because of his ability in one versus one situations.

That is a brilliant attribute to have when playing for a team like West Ham, as it will allow for Lopetegui to push players forward a bit more but also help the team when they need to sit in.

Given that he still has one year left on his contract, it’s unlikely that Man United will pay the same amount of money to get him as they did when they signed him from Crystal Palace in 2019.

Adding a player of the greatest caliber to the team may be a great chance, and because Vladimir Coufal’s future is also uncertain, this could be the perfect addition.

There may be a new look defense at the London Stadium next season, and supporters should be thrilled about the squad’s potential, especially because Max Kilman is also being pursued as a priority [Northern Echo, June 25].

In other West Ham news, following Euro 2024, Tottenham is expected to step up its pursuit of a certain Hammers player.
