Tottenham risk potentially being drawn into a bidding war for Sampdoria youngster Giovanni Leoni, with a number of clubs lining up for him.

That’s according to La Repubblica, relayed by Napoli Magazine, who say Tottenham are one of several clubs eying up a move.

A report last week threw Tottenham into the mix for Leoni, who has been impressing at Sampdoria this season and seemingly earning himself admirers inside and outside of Italy.

That was followed by various reports in Italy earlier this week insisting that Tottenham were in the mix for the youngster and that they were particularly keen on a potential deal this summer.

La Repubblica now follow that up and say Torino can be added to the list of suitors for the defender, with Paolo Vanoli put him and fellow youngster Duncan McGuire at the forefront of his thinking.

They had already followed him a year ago but missed out on the signing at the time, a mistake they could now look to fix.

They’re working hard to get him, and they want to move fast because they understand that the longer time that goes by, the more intense the competition may be to sign him.

This is due to the increased attention that has been paid to him over the past few days, with Tottenham and Atalanta trailing behind Napoli and Inter Milan in the lead.

The main danger is that his autograph might go up for auction, which would probably benefit Tottenham because they have the much-discussed Premier League cash at their disposal.

Although they currently seem to be more of a background presence than other suitors, things may change rapidly, and Torino is undoubtedly worried that this could happen and destroy their chances of landing the player.

The summer transfer window is yet to burst into life in the Premier League with the Euros and Copa America slowing down progress for clubs like Tottenham Hotspur.

The financial books close at the end of this month when it comes to the profit and sustainability rules which have already seen clubs docked points and fined, and that is expected to result in a flurry of transfer movement in late June with clubs like Chelsea and Aston Villa already trading between themselves as they seek to remain on the right side of the Premier League’s regulations.

Tottenham are in a healthier position in that respect but Ange Postecoglou is seeking further additions to bolster the squad for its return to pre-season training which football.london understands is pencilled in for July 6, with the first team non-internationals come back to Hotspur around that weekend.

Postecoglou has said he wants new arrivals in all departments across the squad, with players like England internationals Eberechi Eze, Ivan Toney and Conor Gallagher all linked with Spurs in recent weeks while at the Euros, and following Chris Davies’ resignation to take up his first managerial position at Birmingham City, the Australian must also choose a new assistant head coach.
