South Carolina football target David Sanders had an interesting visit to check out the Tennessee Volunteeers
David Sanders, a 5-star prospect, is the best offensive lineman prospect in the country. Sanders, a native of Charlotte, North Carolina, has narrowed down his list of preferred universities to the Tennessee Volunteers, South Carolina Gamecocks, Ohio State Buckeyes, Clemson Tigers, Georgia Bulldogs, and Alabama Crimson Tide.
He has all the makings of a standout offensive tackle in college and beyond because he is the perfect combination of size and athleticism.
Sanders went up to Knoxville this past weekend to see one of his favorites. But, during a visit to the Tennessee Volunteers, a member of the recruiting staff mishandled their portion of the pitch.
During one of the recruit meals, Sanders had a big steak dinner put in front of him (the steaks were a bit too well done, but to each their own). However, the name card in front of Sanders’ food had his name misspelled. Instead of “David Sanders, Jr.” being printed on the folded orange card stock, the name on the card read “Davis Sanders, Jr.” Click the post on Twitter/X below to see for yourself.
Ultimately, something like this likely doesn’t play a role in Sanders’ recruitment, but there have been stories of athletes who felt so disrespected by a name mix-up that they decided they didn’t want to hear any more from that particular group.
One of the most famous examples came from the world of basketball as Golden State Warriors superstar Steph Curry was deciding between Nike and Under Armour for his signature line of shoes. During his meeting with Instead of Stephen Curry (pronounced Steff-en), Nike referred to Curry as Stephon Curry (pronounced Steff-on). That’s why Curry went with Under Armour.
David Sanders didn’t seem to have any issues following his visit; in fact, he posted positive remarks about his time in Knoxville on social media. Still, the supporters of South Carolina football (as well as the fan bases of the Vols’ other opponents and the clubs trying to sign Sanders) have had a great time making fun of the orange and white for the unlucky incident.
Sanders continues to take into account each of the six universities on his top-6 list.
