Maple Leafs’ Max Domi Has Questions About William Nylander’s Lizard Instagram Post
Are there lizards in Sweden? Max Domi wonders the same thing.
Toronto Maple Leafs star William Nylander has become known for his offseason Instagram posts as a guy who loves to travel in his downtime. In fact, the majority of his page is travel-related.
The 28-year-old was shown posing in a few pictures in his most recent post, which was released on Thursday and had the description “somewhere.” In the third and last picture, a lizard captured the eye of Leafs forward and upcoming UFA Max Domi.
Since there isn’t a location associated with the carousel, it’s unclear where Nylander is, but I don’t think Sweden has palm trees. In addition, Nylander appeared in a video that was uploaded the day before, in which his siblings—Alex, Jacquline, Michelle, Stephanie, and Ella—were seen holding posters that said, “Grattis Ella,” which translates to “Congratulations Ella,” and they appeared to be headed to the same place as his Instagram picture.
Though Domi’s comment may be a type of inside joke with the Swedish forward, Leaf fans were quick to jump in to express their desire for Domi to return to Toronto next fall. His passion for wearing the Maple Leaf emblem on the front of his sweater won the fanbase over as he was quickly adored by the fans of Leaf Nation.
“I’ve never seen someone with so much passion for this team, please come back,” one commenter said.
“Max, please stay in Toronto. You were a welcome addition to the team, bringing an element that they have lacked for a long time. Sincerely, please stay a Leaf. You were born with blue blood,” another commenter added.
Domi signed a one-year $3 million contract in the summer of 2023 and is set to become an unrestricted free agent (UFA) on July 1. In his lone season with the club, Domi scored 9 goals paired with 39 assists in the regular season – good enough for 47 points in 80 games. In the postseason, he added another goal and three assists for four points in seven games.
In terms of resigning with the team, it seems both player and management want to get a deal in place for him to continue to be a Maple Leaf. Recently, general manager Brad Treliving stated that he was interested in keeping the veteran on, and talks with his agent Judd Moldaver have already started. However, no specific amounts have been provided as of yet.
Domi said without hesitation, “Absolutely,” when asked if he would consider leaving Toronto this summer during the team’s end-of-season media availability. This team has all the potential to accomplish something exceptional, and I would love to support them in doing so. With free agency only a few weeks away, the trajectory of this negotiation will begin to become more apparent very soon.
