The Bulls have been dealt a massive blow following confirmation that one of their star Springboks will miss the United Rugby Championship quarter-final at Loftus Versfeld this weekend.
BIG BLOW FOR BULLS
It has been confirmed that Canan Moodie will play no part in the Bulls’ knockout game against Benetton on Saturday due to injury.
The 21-year-old Springboks ace made the announcement himself via a video posted on the Bulls’ social media platforms.
“Unfortunately I won’t be able to play this weekend due to injury,” Moodie revealed. “But I want to encourage everyone to come out and help me support the boys. And hopefully we can pull this one through.”
Moodie sustained the injury during their derby encounter against the Sharks in Durban last weekend, but pointed out that the knock is not serious and that he is only nursing a few bumps and bruises.
“It’s just bumps and bruises,” the Springbok explained. “We are strapping it so I can make sure I can get on the field and play and contribute to the team.”
“Nothing hectic, just a bit of precaution with the strapping and ensuring I can function fully and go 100 when needed.”
OTHER SPRINGBOKS UNAVAILABLE FOR PLAYOFF DUTY
Moodie joins a growing list of Springboks that’ll miss the URC quarter-finals through injury.
His Bulls and Springboks teammates Marco van Staden, who also got injured against the Sharks, is also likely to sit out the match against Benetton, as confirmed by Jake White.
“I would think that a guy like Marco won’t be available, but the others seem to be ok,” the former Springboks boss revealed.
Over at the Stormers, two World Cup-winning Springboks — Damian Willemse and Deon Fourie — will have to watch their team fight for a spot in the semi-finals on the television due to ailments.
Willemse recently underwent corrective surgery on his hand, while Fourie is in the rehabilitation phase of his long-term injury.
