The Celtics are waiting for their opponent in the NBA Finals after sweeping the Indiana Pacers. Boston seems to be clicking on all cylinders and have gotten big games from both Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown. Despite the success the duo has had, though, including Brown winning the Eastern Conference Finals MVP, a narrative has been floating around that there’s tension between the teammates.
One of their teammates, though, isn’t buying into it.
In response to what Alan Hahn and Jay Williams stated on ESPN’s “Get Up” on Wednesday, Shae Brissett said on X, formerly known as Twitter, “Nah these guys have to be bored (lol) this is getting outta hand.”
Tatum and Brown, according to Hahn, are “under two different pressures,” with Brown feeling under pressure to demonstrate his equality and membership in the elite group that has been highlighted. Williams, however, claimed that because it’s unclear who “1A” on the Celtics is, there is “natural tension” between Tatum and Brown.
Upon hearing that Brown had won the ECF MVP award following their Game 4 victory over the Pacers, Tatum was clearly happy for him. He and a few other players expressed their admiration for Brown and his
Tatum remarked, “That was special,” in reference to Brown’s Larry Bird Trophy victory. It’s big time to get paid for your performance. That’s a noteworthy accomplishment for both him and the rest of us.
This is not the first time a talking head has disparaged Brown’s reputation. Stephen A. Smith recently claimed to have heard from a source that his “I-am-better-than-you-attitude” is the reason he is disliked. Brown shared on social media for Smith to cite his source, and Isiah Thomas stood up for his former comrade.
Maybe, as Brissett implied, the talking heads are just bored. However, the Celtics’ priorities are the NBA Finals and winning Banner 18.
