Justin Fields Makes Light of Steelers Coach’s Idea to Have Him Return Kickoffs
Despite a rumor created by his fellow Pittsburgh Steelers teammate, Justin Fields quickly shot down the idea of him returning kickoffs during the 2024 NFL season.
Fields was one of the kickoff returners who Steelers running back Jaylen Warren had previously mentioned special teams coach Danny Smith was thinking about utilizing. Fields, though, wished to correct the record.
According to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, Fields stated, “No, I’m not here to do that.” “It was kind of a joke, to be honest with you.”
He went on to explain how the quote was taken out of context a bit by Warren.
Fields remarked, “I think everybody kind of interpreted it wrong.” “Coach Danny essentially wanted to convey that anyone can be selected for special teams, regardless of their identity. He merely cited that as an illustration.”
As of right now, Russell Wilson is most likely to start as quarterback for Pittsburgh, replacing Fields in that capacity.Still, Fields hopes to challenge for the starting spot. He’s not thinking about “just sitting all year.”
The NFL is going to introduce new kickoff regulations for the 2024 season, even though Fields will not be returning kickoffs for the Steelers.
