Since head coach Sean McDermott took over in 2017, the Buffalo Bills have fielded one of the best defenses in the NFL. However, after losing defensive mainstays like safeties Jordan Poyer and Micah Hyde and cornerback Tre’Davious White to retirement during the offseason, Buffalo’s defense will feature a number of new faces.
First up on Buffalo Rumblinks today are opinions on the team’s redesigned defense and how McDermott plans to use some of the summer additions.
Thoughts on Buffalo’s revamped defense
Despite losing long-term defensive mainstays like White, Poyer, and Hyde, the Bills did improve their defensive depth in all areas through free agency and the 2024 NFL Draft, which included safety Mike Edwards, defensive tackles Austin Johnson and DeShawn Williams, defensive end Casey Toohill, and defensive tackle Cole Bishop. It is now McDermott’s responsibility to figure out how to combine the returning talent on defense with all of the new pieces.
